If the infection severely damages the tooth or root, the tooth may need to be extracted to prevent the spread of infection. The more the infection spreads, the less chance there is of saving the tooth. Leaving a severely infected tooth poses risks for further tooth loss and severe pain.
Dental crowns are hollow cap-like structures that are fitted on top of teeth that have been damaged by decay. Dental crowns can be made out of a variety of materials including metal, porcelain, resin or ceramic.
Dental bridges are a restorative technique used to replace missing teeth. A bridge is usually an artificial tooth fused between 2 crowns. The bridge is secured in place by the adjacent natural teeth; it is permanent and cannot be removed (unlike dentures). Dental bridges can last 10 years or longer depending on oral hygiene and upkeep.
Dentures are an option for patients looking for artificial replacements for missing teeth. Dentures can be either partial or complete, both are custom-made and tailored to the patient’s oral health.
Partial Dentures are ideal when a few teeth are missing as they can fill in the gaps or when the nearby natural teeth are not strong enough to hold a bridge. The denture is held in place by clasping onto the existing teeth and it can be removed.
Complete dentures are ideal when all teeth are missing as they replace a full set of teeth. Complete dentures are held in place by suction, and they are also removable.
Regular dental hygiene upkeep is the only way to keep your teeth healthy and strong. A cleaning appointment every 6 months with the dental hygienists is recommended to prevent dental decay – as they say prevention is better than cure. A hygiene appointment involves scaling of dental plaque build-up, cleaning and polishing, and insight of your oral health based on your regularity of brushing and flossing.
Gum disease is caused by a buildup of plaque (a sticky form of bacteria that forms on the teeth). If the plaque is not removed (by flossing, brushing, and regular dental checkups), it will continue to build up and create toxins that can damage the gums. Periodontal disease forms just below the gum line and creates small pockets that separate the gums from the teeth. Periodontal disease has two stages: gingivitis and periodontitis.
Bleeding gums while eating, flossing or brushing
Loose Teeth
Gum Recession
Tenderness of the gums
Extra spacing between teeth
Chronic halitosis (bad breath)
Pus or infection around teeth and gumsn
Receding or red and puffy gums
Regular dental checkups and periodontal examinations are important for maintaining your health and the look of your smile. You don't have to lose teeth to get periodontal disease, and by practicing good oral hygiene at home, you can significantly reduce your chances of ever getting gum disease. Remember to brush regularly, clean between your teeth, eat a balanced diet, and schedule regular dental visits to help keep your smile healthy.
Treatments for gum disease can vary depending on the severity of each individual case. Typical treatments include:
Non-surgical treatments such as at-home periodontal trays, scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) help you control the disease and prevent re-infection, we have developed comprehensive preventive plaque control (oral hygiene) instructions. This will help ensure predictable treatment and long-term success. During the active phase of your treatment, we will spend as much time as we feel you need to perfect your plaque removal skills. Please be patient with the process and with us. We will monitor your progress and review your techniques frequently (whenever we feel you need additional instructions)
This deep cleaning has two parts:
Scaling - Scaling is when all the plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) above and below the gumline are removed all the way down to the bottom of the pocket.
Smoothing the Roots - This is referred to as root planning, and allows your gums to attach again to your roots.
Scaling and root planning may take more than one visit to complete and may require a local anesthetic for your comfort. After a deep cleaning, you may have some discomfort for a day or two, and sensitivity. Your gums also may be swollen, feel tender and bleed. Rest assured, this is short term.
We will schedule another visit (Re-evaluation) to see how your gums have healed and measure the depth of your pockets. If the pockets do not heal after scaling and root planing, periodontal surgery may be needed to reduce pocket depths, making teeth easier to clean.
ood dental care at home is essential to help keep gum disease from becoming more serious or recurring.
Your best defense is to brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft brush, floss every day, eat a balanced diet, and avoid using tobacco of any kind.

Wisdom tooth removal is a surgical procedure in which one to four adult teeth that are located farthest back in the dental arch are removed. Wisdom teeth are generally removed as they can cause health complications later in life. Untreated wisdom teeth can cause migraine, oral cysts, oral infection, tooth decay, and periodontitis.
